Reel Breakdown

Compositing

Hunted By a Freak (Dec 2004)
Tools: Shake, After Effects
Description: This shot from the Hunted By a Freak music video required a chroma-key and match-move operation to insert two old-film effected pictures into the scene. This was my first exposure to nodal-compositing.

Beyond the Clouds: The Promised Place* (Fall 2004)
Tools: After Effects, Photoshop
Description: A for-fun, unlicensed anime movie translation/subtitling effort done by some friends and I. These two shots were "onscreens," translations of on-screen Japanese text intended to blend into the original shot. The first shots (signs) required rotoscoping work to keep the translated sign from overlapping the characters onscreen, as well as tracking to match the frame's movement. The second shot (TV) required extensive Photoshop work to match the scanlines, curve, DoF blur, and then roto/fx work as well as match-moving in After Effects.

Motion Graphics

Havoc and Anarchy logo & Prank-A-Tour 2005 opening (Spring 2005)
Tools: After Effects, Photoshop
Description: The logo for Havoc and Anarchy (the production name chosen for Prank-A-Tour 2005's organizers) and the opening credits for the documentary. Utilized Photoshop to do photo manipulation (including making layers out of a group photo of the tour group) and After Effects to animate the layers and text in a dynamic, engaging manner.

Music Video Promo (Early Fall 2004)
Tools: Final Cut Pro, After Effects, Illustrator
Description: Class project. Shot and edited a 30-second world premiere music video promo clip for an imaginary music television network, "Music Today." Created opening and packaging materials in Illustrator, animated them in After Effects.

Man Named Charlie Teaser (Spring 2004)
Tools:Final Cut Pro, After Effects, Illustrator
Description: Second short film I worked on with friend and director Rian Kountz. Edited together clips from shooting and created animated titles in After Effects to create a teaser trailer before the movie's release.

Man Named Charlie opening (Spring 2004)
Tools: After Effects, Photoshop
Description: Opening credits from Man Named Charlie. Shot photographs of actors, edited into black-on-color versions in Photoshop, imported layered files into After Effects to add text and animate.

velocity.60 studios logo (Spring 2004)
Tools: After Effects, Illustrator
Description: The production name I use for all my own work, I created this logo to lead Man Named Charlie. It replaced an older version of the logo, and I have used it ever since.
